Governor Inslee has vowed to transform behavioral health in Washington state

As part of Governor Inslee’s five-year plan and vision to transform Washington’s behavioral health systems, the Department of Social and Health Services is developing a continuum of serves to prevent or divert people from being committed to the state hospitals and support people in their recovery after their treatment in the state hospitals is complete. The Legislature supported Governor Inslee's concept and, in the 2019 Session, enacted a budget and provided direction to the Department of Social and Health Services to begin development of three small community-based/ behavioral health residential treatment facilities. Learn more about how DSHS is working to transform behavioral health.
